Craigslist Accused Killer Philip Markoff commits suicide

Accused Craigslist killer Philip Markoff 24, was found dead in his Nashua Street Jail Sunday morning. The Suffolk County district attorney's office said in an e-mailed statement Markoff was pronounced dead at bout 10:15 a.m.

"Markoff was alone in his cell, and all evidence collected thus far indicates that he took his own life," the statement said.

Philip Markoff was a former medical student who became known as the Craigslist Killer after being accused of murdering a masseuse. Markoff was being held at the Boston Jail where he was awaiting trial.

The district attorney said it will ivestigate the circumstances surrounding Markoff's death.

Markoff's trial was scheduled to begin in March of 2011.

Markoff  was a former Boston University student. Markoff pleaded not guilty to his charges for the fatal shooting of Julissa Brisman.of New York City, and the armed robbery of a Las Vegas woman.Markoff was accused of commiting both of these crimes at Boston Hotels over the course of 4 days in 2009. During the same Rhode Island prosecutors accused Markoff of attacking a stripper.
