Military Shooting Show in France Leaves 16 Injured

A French military shooting show has left 16 people injured, four critically, after real bullets were used in the demonstration rather than blanks.

The shooting occurred at the Laperrine military barracks in the south east town of Aude during a demonstration of techniques used to free hostages.

According to reports the demonstration had taken place five times but on the sixth take live ammunition was used forcing onlookers to drop to the ground and hide for cover.

One soldier was detained in the incident pending investigation.
