Death of Pregnant Army Servicewoman Ruled Homicide

The death of Army Spc. Megan Lynn Touma is now being treated as a homicide as detectives continue to investigate the crime scene and work towards determining the cause of death.

Touma’s body was found nine days ago inside a motel room in Fayetteville, North Carolina just days after she arrived back in the United States from a stint in Germany.

In a statement released by Fayetteville police spokesman Lt. David Sportsman it was acknowledged that the Army was involved in the investigation. The statement noted “As this investigation has matured and because of the obvious link to the U.S. Army, it was expected that Army CID would eventually work this case jointly with our agency.”

Sportsman’s statement did not mention a letter that had reportedly been sent to The Fayetteville Observer in which an individual claimed to have killed Touma. That letter included a symbol similar to those left by the infamous Zodiac killer, an individual believed to be responsible for several murders in California in the 1960s. That killer was never captured.
