Netherlands Enacts Smoking Ban in Public Places

The Netherlands became the latest European country to put into effect a tobacco smoking ban, eliminating the right to smoke in cafes, bars and restaurants.

Many of those who opposed the ban have said a severe drop in business will likely follow and it will be the merchants who suffer the most from the legislation while those in favor of the measure have said more non-smokers will frequent the establishments effected by the ban.

Unaffected by the ban are cannabis cafes which will still be open to marijuana smokers but only if they don’t mix the weed with tobacco.
