Madeleine McCann Investigation to be Closed by August 15

Portuguese media outlets have reported police will drop their investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann due to a lack of evidence in the case.

Madeleine McCann went missing on May 3, 2007, nine days prior to her fourth birthday, while her family was vacationing in Portugal. According to the parents they had left Madeleine, along with their two-year-old twins, unsupervised in their rented villa while they went out for dinner. When they returned later that evening they discovered Madeleine was gone.

A massive international search for McCann was launched and despite several leads and potential suspects police have yet to pin the crime on any one person.

Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry as well as a man who was known in the area were all declared official suspects in the case but charges were never filed.

According to the Portuguese media reports the investigation would likely end by Aug 15 but the case could reopen if new evidence was found.
