Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" Tops Billboard Chart in Opening Week

Coldplay's latest album Viva La Vida debuted last week at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 US album chart, selling over 720,000 copies in America in its first week of release.

In the UK, Viva La Vida is the fastest-selling album of the year and is the top of the chart for the second week in a row. It has ranked no. 1 in several countries around the world, including Japan, Australia, Canada, France and Germany.

Viva La Vida also set the record for highest first-week album sales ever on the iTunes® Store worldwide, as well as the biggest album pre-order in iTunes’ history.

Last Tuesday, the album's title song surpassed its 2002 hit "Clocks" as the band’s biggest-selling single to date on the iTunes Store.

Viva La Vida reached no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US last week, marking Coldplay's first Hot 100 no. 1 single ever, and last week it debuted at no. 1 on the UK singles chart.

Viva La Vida is the follow-up to 2005’s X&Y, which also debuted at no. 1 on The Billboard 200, the UK album chart and in numerous other countries, going on to sell 10 million copies worldwide to date.
