A teen missing for 42 days after becoming lost in the Amazon rain forest was found Saturday by his father, but died a short time later in his father’s arms.
18-year-old Jonathan dos Santos Alves had been missing since mid-May when he and two other friends became separated while hunting in the Amazon. He was discovered 27 miles from where he went missing.
The teen’s father had continued looking for him even though an official search had been called off a month ago. When they discovered Alves, he was dehydrated, emaciated and covered in insect bites.
Alves’ father said as he held his son to revive him, the boy just gritted his teeth and died.
