Method of use for Bioidentical Hormones - Transdermal Delivery

Aug 17, 2010 Dallas,Texas - The ideal hormone replacement therapy (HRT) process involves first - measurement of hormone levels; and  then - supplementation with bioidentical (The exact same molecule as your body produces) as needed with the goal of normalizing levels to those of a 20-25 year old, when we are at our best, “in our prime”.

Transdermal delivery makes sense. We metabolize many things in the skin. The dermis is our largest organ. The dermis is in fact where many processes of metabolism occur. When supplementation of hormones is administered via a transdermal vehicle the body absorbs through the skin into the blood in small capillaries. Vitamin D and other pro-hormones and hormones are produced in the skin. This is well demonstrated by medical research. One excellent demonstration of this is a study performed at University of Toronto Medical School by Dr. Fernand Labrie et al published in 2007 in Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. When taken orally, DHEA is very minimally effective because most DHEA ingested orally is eliminated by the the liver so it does not yield noticeable benefits.

Developing the ideal Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) process involves assessment of hormone levels - ideally the “free” levels of hormones present in the blood in fingerstick blood (at the extremities). Then begin supplementation of pro-hormones, the basic building blocks of hormones, to normalize levels. Give that time to work. This may take between 3 weeks to 3 months because small daily administration of a transdermal supplement cream is very subtle. But great good is done by small consistent daily administration over time. Begin with DHEA. Then other specific hormone levels lower in the cascade of metabolism can then be tested and supplemented to normalize levels. Levels can periodically be retested to guage improvements every few months. A physician trained in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy can determine if specific hormones such as progesterone, estrogen or testosterone may also be beneficial. The goal is to maintain levels closer to those of you had at age 20-25.

Once normal levels of bioidentical hormones are achieved with high quality transdermal cream, subdermal pellets can be custom compounded and implanted by a physician every 90 days to maintain normal levels.

Maintaining normal levels of bioidentical hormones is not harmful of dangerous. In fact, medical research shows that normal hormone levels improve immune response, vascular health, bone density, mood and cognition. Low levels of the basic pro-hormone DHEA are associated with most diseases of aging.
