India Truckers Launch Indefinite Strike Amid Soaring Fuel Prices

Protesting the rising cost of diesel fuel, India’s truck drivers parked their vehicles and began an indefinite strike.

An estimated four million truck owners turned off their engines and demanded the government do something to alleviate the burden that has befallen them. According to the truck drivers their price has soared while those who hire them to transport goods are unwilling to pay hirer costs.

The majority of goods transported in India are done so in trucks and the strike could spike the price of those goods.

Drivers are also protesting the road taxes they are forced to pay, many arguing that by the time they pay their fuel costs and road taxes they have nothing left.
