At Least 60 Followers of Muslim Spiritual Leader Killed by Chadian Military Troops

At least 60 followers of a Muslim spiritual leader were killed and another 50 left injured after Chadian military troops opened fire on the group who threatened to launch a holy war.

According to reports the military troops arrived at Ahmat Israel Bichara’s base in Kouno, Chad and attempted to stop the leader from speaking. Fighting quickly broke out between his followers and the troops, escalating into gunfire.

Four soldiers were killed as followers used swords, spears and bows to defend themselves yet the troops firepower left the casualties predominantly on the followers’ side.

Ahmat Israel Bichara had preached that he was willing to lead a fight to bring the true Islamic faith back to Chad.
