Brooke Bennett’s Body Discovered Near Uncle’s Home

The body of Brooke Bennett was discovered Wednesday just a few miles from the home of her uncle, with whom she was last seen June 25.

Police discovered the body of the missing 12-year-old off a country road in Randolph, Vermont around 4:45 pm. According to a statement by Vermont State Police, the death “appears to be the result of foul play.”

Brooke’s uncle, 42-year-old Michael Jacques, was arrested June 29 and charged with assault in a separate incident. Jacques had been called "a person of interest" in the child's disappearance.

Brooke became the subject of Vermont’s first Amber Alert, a nationwide system in place for missing children.
