A South Korean fishing boat sank Wednesday near New
Zealand, leaving 3 people dead and 3 others missing.
Fifty-one people were onboard the Oyang 70 when it sank
in just 10 minutes. Rescue teams from New Zealand’s Rescue and Coordination
Center were able to save 45 crew members. The bodies of the dead were
recovered. Rescue operations for the 3 missing crew members have been suspended.
"A survival time in these waters is very short. For
12 hours, we have searched for the three missing men; the chance of their
survival is extremely low. We have searched longer than a person could possibly
survive in such temperature,” said a spokesperson for the Rescue and
Coordination Center.
It is unclear what caused the boat to sink.
