Big Sur Wildfires Force Mass Evacuations

Northern California has already been ravaged by wildfires and now the scenic coastal town of Big Sur could become the latest victim as firefighters continue to struggle to contain an out-of-control blaze.

More than 850 residents of Big Sur were ordered to evacuate and their only path out was north along Highway 1.

Strong winds and extremely dry conditions have fanned the flames and made containment nearly impossible.

Authorities have already closed a total of 25 miles of Highway 1 and Wednesday ordered evacuations for those living along a 31 mile stretch of the roadway.
