A state of calm returned to
The rioting began after preliminary election results from the weekend’s parliamentary election indicated a victory by the ruling party was imminent. Five people were killed and more than 200 injured when thousands descended city streets in protest.
While the ruling Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party is expected to win a majority of seats, official election results will not be available until late Thursday or Friday.
International observers say the election was free and fair.
