India Truckers Call Off Strike

Less than three days after it began India’s truckers have called off their strike after the government agreed to freeze road tolls on highways for one year.

The truckers had protested the rising cost of diesel fuel as well as the increasing roadway tolls when they parked their trucks late Tuesday night. An estimated four million trucks stopped carrying food as well as products, leading many to believe prices would quickly skyrocket.

Late Thursday night the leaders of the trucker operators and government met and worked out a deal that would put the drivers back on the road Friday morning.
