Dollar Tree Rises After Solid Earnings

Dollar Tree, Inc. (NASDAQ:DLTR) this morning reported its fiscal second-quarter earnings, which topped analysts’ estimates significantly and also lifted its outlook for the Current year earnings.

The company said it earned  $78 million, or 61 cents a share during the quarter, compared with $56.9 million, or 42 cents a share, a year ago. Analysts were expecting 54 cents a share.

Comparable sales grew 6.7% as the company serves low cost retail products and consumer were active in buying those products in the when they had less spending exposure

Despite lackluster consumer spending and increased competition from Wal-Mart, The company lifted its current-year earnings estimate to $2.97 -$3.09 a share after compared to its previous guidance of $2.86-$3.00 a share.

Shares of Dollar Tree slid 3.50% to $41.80 on Wednesday.

Dick's Sporting Goods beats Q2 Earnings

Dick's Sporting Goods, Inc. (NYSE:DKS) shares fell over 1.20% after the discounter reported a higher than expected earnings in second-quarter, while reduced its quarter three earnings on lower spending.

The company reported that its profit jumped 32.40% to $51.5 million, or 43 cents a share during the quarter, compared with $ $38.9 million, or 33 cents a share in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

Total revenues for the quarter grew 9% to $1.23 billion and same store sales grew 5.70%.

Analysts were expecting 41 cents a share on revenue of $1.22 billion.

For the current quarter, the company projected adjusted earnings of 15-16 cents a share, below analysts' expectations of 18 cents a share.
