China: North Korean Plane Crashed Because of Mechanical Problems

Chinese authorities have announced mechanical failures caused a North Korean military aircraft to lose direction and crash in Lagu township in Liaoning province on Tuesday. The crash killed the pilot and destroyed a house.

Earlier reports indicated the pilot may have been attempting to defect North Korea to Russia.

Chinese and North Korean authorities have “reached a consensus on dealing with the aftermath” of the crash, according to Xinhua news agency.
