Niger and China Sign Agreement to Help Improve Country’s Power Supplies

In an effort to improve its troubled electrical power units Niger has signed an agreement that would invite China to assist them in tackling their problems in power supplies.

Niger has had difficulty in securing supplies from Nigeria and as a result the country has experienced a steady flow of power outages.

The agreement with China will place several electrical power units in Niger, a move that Hamidu Mamudu, head of Niger’s power plant in the capital city of Niamey, addressed, "We hope that this new equipment could help increase the production of electric power by about 30% for the region of (the capital) Niamey, which means we will be able to provide between 50 and 60 megawatts."

China’s relationship with Niger has been developing rapidly as several Chinese companies have been exploring for uranium and oil in several regions.
