Indian Embassy in Kabul Targeted by Suicide Bomber, at least 41 Killed

The Indian embassy in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul was struck by a suicide bomber on Monday, killing at least 41 people and injuring more than 140.

According to witnesses the suicide bomber rammed a car filled with explosives into the gates of the embassy while several people stood outside the building awaiting visas.

There have been no claims of responsibility for the attack but many believe a group that has opposed India’s involvement in the reconstruction of Afghanistan played a role.

Among those killed in Monday’s bombing were India’s defense attaché as well as a senior diplomat.

A statement released by the Indian government noted, “Such acts of terror will not deter us from fulfilling our commitments to the government and people of Afghanistan.”
