This year, the International Union Against Cancer.
UICC, the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association and the Chinese Medical Association
have teamed up to organize and host the 2010 World Cancer Congress. This edition of the international event will
focus on topics such as primary prevention, screening and early detection,
treatment and management, supportive care and end of life. Particular attention will also be paid to how
programs, infrastructures and resources are integrated into existing delivery
systems, while best practices and the challenges of maximizing effectiveness
and efficiency and outreach in different resource settings will be the subject
of dialogue and debate.
This truly international congress, organized by
medical professionals from such countries as Australia, China, Switzerland, the
United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and France, aims to review the latest
information on cancer causes, prevention, treatment and care. The event will
examine how to optimize plans for cancer control and how assess the role of
cancer organizations in implementing cancer agendas. Needless to say, the knowledge and skills
addressed will be invaluable to mesothelioma doctors
and other cancer specialists interested in reassessing policies and programs
with other experts from around the world and to review current issues and
future problems and opportunities.
Mesothelioma
is one type of cancer in particular that would benefit from the international
exchange of information taking place and centered around the 11 targets of the
2008 World Cancer Declaration.
Mesothelioma, a rare type of cancer that affects the lining of the chest
or abdomen, is often caused by asbestos exposure and is often detected in later
stages. Mesothelioma treatment
includes surgery, chemotherapy, radiation or a combination of the three.
Each congress delegate can organize his or her own
agenda and attend the plenary sessions, symposia, workshops and oral abstract
sessions of most interest. The official
language of the congress is English, although certain sessions will also be
presented in other languages. Sessions
are made up of several presentations with discussions at the end. Session themes include:
