Over 50 Pilot Whales Beached in New Zealand

Over 50 pilot whales beached themselves in northern New Zealand early Friday morning. Conservation officials found 58 whales on Karikari Beach after receiving a call about the animals.

Only 15 of the whales were alive. The first attempt to refloat the survivors failed. Officials say they will face the whales towards the sea and hope they swim out when high tides hit.
