Beijing Still Failing Air Quality Standards According to Report

According to a BBC report Beijing has fallen short of maintaining air quality standards that have been set by the World Health Organization.

Beijing will be hosting the 2008 Olympics in less than a month and are still woefully behind the WHO standards for a healthy environment. In the BBC report Beijing was found to fail the air quality guidelines on six of seven days despite making a pledge in 2001 to meet those standards.

Particles that contribute to the heavy pollution inside Beijing are attributed to traffic, construction and factory emissions, all elements that the city promises will be in check by next month. As part of that promise the Beijing plans to implement measures that will take vehicles off the road and end further construction.
