Hans Reiser, Convicted of Murdering Wife, Leads Police to Body

Days before Hans Reiser was due in court to face sentencing on first-degree murder charges, he lead authorities to what is believed to be his estranged wife’s body. The prominent software programmer, who is best known for his ReiserFS file system, denied having anything to do with his wife’s 2006 disappearance.

In April, Reiser was convicted of murdering his wife Nina Reiser despite denying the charges. The 44-year-old lead police to what is believed to be Nina’s body on Monday. Nina, 31, was last seen on September 3, 2006 when she dropped off her two children for a visit with Reiser. The couple was going through a bitter custody battle at the time.

Reiser, who was handcuffed to one of his attorneys, led authorities to Redwood Regional Park where he easily located a 4 foot by 4 foot grave. “He went right to it,” said defense attorney Richard Tamor. He added that the programmer was “pensive, as anybody would be.”

Police confirmed a body had been found, but have not confirmed the identity. Reiser faces 25 years to life in prison.
