T. Boone Pickens Announces Wind Energy Plan on PickensPlan.com

T. Boone Pickens, the renowned billionaire oil investor, has announced a plan on Monday to supplant oil with wind energy.

The Pickens Plan offers an alternative and economic structure to alleviate America's dependence on oil, which has had a significantly negative effect on the US economy over the past couple of years, specifically the last couple of months.

"We're paying $700 billion a year for foreign oil. It's breaking us as a nation, and I want to elevate that question to the presidential debate, to make it the No. 1 issue of the campaign this year," Pickens says.

The Pickens Plan, which is located at http://www.pickensplan.com, states a plan to cut USA's demand on oil by a third in less than a decade.

The Pickens Plan is expected to be the biggest public policy ad campaign ever as sources say that Pickens' face will be on television screens more than McCain and Obama's during the next couple of months heading into the presidential election.

So far, Pickens has spent $2 billion on wind energy, including a record purchase of nearly 700 wind turbines this year from General Electric. He expects to spend up to $10 billion on the project and to begin generating electricity in 2011.
