Wasn't sure what to expect but when I rounded the final bend in Wilmore Kentucky and saw the masses of tents and campers, I knew the Ichthus Festival experience was one that was shared with thousands.
We entered the Ichthus Festival grounds and slowly made our way to the American Cornhole - Cornhole Madness Game Area. The Boards were already set up with festival attendees taking part in friendly cornhole games. The designated Cornhole Madness area was perfect. Next to a major campground area and within listening distance of the Ichthus Festival Stage, it was an active location.
American Cornhole Organization had set up the standard cornhole boards as well as placing New cornhole games, like the Challenger Series, the Cornhole Pitch Pots, and SEVEN21 for the participants to play so ACO could get a reaction from the Ichthus Festival crowd. Cornhole Madness was at its peak on Friday when torrential rains called short all of the active cornhole games. And it was - Cornhole Madness - getting the boards and bags under cover before the clouds broke. Just made it.
Saturday started and ended with a flurry of activity. The campground was soaked from the rains the night before but the spirit of the attendees was as bright as the morning sun. Many of the participants had never seen or played the game but were hooked on it after their first pitch. The game brought families to play, buddies to play, and a single person who just wanted to improve his toss.
Ichthus Festival for 2008 has come and gone, but the game of cornhole has found some new homes.
