Aribert Heim, Dr. Death, Believed to be Hiding in Chile

The most wanted member of Adolf Hitler’s Nazi army is believed to be hiding in southern Chile. Aribert Heim, known as Dr. Death, is accused of killing Jews using cruel methods. He is said to have documented the victims he tortured and killed while he was a doctor at Mauthausen concentration camp.

“His crimes are fully documented by himself, because he kept a log of the operations that he carried out,” said Efraim Zuroff, director of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre. “He tourtured many inmates before he killed them at Mauthausen, and he used body parts of the people he killed as decorations.”

Zuroff said the centre has received information that Heim, who would be 94-years-old if he is still alive, is in Chile where is daughter is believed to live. “In the last few days we’ve received information from two different sources, both relating to Chile, which we think have very good potential,” he said.

The centre has put up a $495,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Heim.

Heim was a doctor in Germany until 1962, when he fled the country. He was tipped off that authorities were set to prosecute him on his war crimes.

According to Holocaust survivors, Heim killed inmates by performing medical experiments on them without anesthetic. He also injected victims in the heart with petrol, water or poison.
