Brooke Bennett Funeral Service Attracts Nearly 1,000

The funeral for 12-year-old Brooke Bennett was held on Wednesday with nearly 1,000 people attending the service held in Randolph, Vermont.

Addressing the large congregation gathered at the United Church of Bethel, Pastor Thomas Harty implored the mourners to never let such a tragedy occur again.

That tragedy began nearly two weeks ago when Bennett disappeared after being dropped off at a convenience store by her uncle. Michael Jacques had told police he dropped his niece off at the store and never saw her again but a week later her body was found buried in a shallow grave and investigators traced evidence back to Jacques.

He was arrested on federal kidnapping charges and remains jailed yet has not been charged with Bennett’s murder.
