China Bans Dog Meat at Official Olympic Restaurants

In an effort to appease potentially sensitive visitors China has ordered all 112 official Olympic restaurants to strip dog meat from their menus. China is hosting the 2008 Olympic Games in August and the dog meat ban was made to “respect the habits of many countries and nationalities.”

The ban was issued by the Beijing Catering Trade Association who also appealed to the remaining restaurants to pull dog meat from their menus.

Restaurants have been encouraged to suggest an alternate meal to patrons who ordered the dog meat

China has threatened to black-list any restaurant that violates the ban.
