iPhone 3G Practically Sold Out, iPhone 2.0 Activation Problems Rampant

The iPhone 3G was released Friday at AT&T and Apple stores, but its availability became low in hours as many stores sold out almost immediately.

Lines to get into AT&T and Apple store locations were wrapped around the block for people to buy the new iPhone 3G. Unfortunately, once consumers got their new phones, it was evident that the iPhone 3G suffered from massive activation problems with the iPhone 2.0 software, especially for O2 UK customers.

The activation and synchronization of the new iPhone 3G jammed up Apple's web site, causing users to have problems connecting to iTunes and be without phone service.

For people with the original iPhone 1.0, Apple released the iPhone OS 2.0 software update, which is available as a free download on iTunes. iPod touch users can also download the iPhone OS 2.0 update via the iTunes Store at a cost of $9.95, which also brings with it the features added in the iPod touch software update in January.

In addition, iTunes 7.7 was released recently, prompting iPhone users to update this function through the new App Store as well.

With the mad rush for new consumers to purchase the phone and for existing customers to upgrade to iPhone OS 2.0, it is easy to see how Apple had issues with its update connections.
