Bronislaw Geremek, Former Polish Foreign Minister, Killed in Car Accident

Former Polish foreign minister Bronislaw Geremek was killed on Sunday when he was involved in a head-on car crash in western Poland.

Geremek had played an integral role in the fall of communism in his country as an advisor to Lech Walesa and the Solidarity union.

The 76-year-old Geremek was foreign minister from 1997-2000 and had been a member of the European Parliament since 2004.

The accident on Sunday occurred near the town of Lubien.
