Ingrid Betancourt Appointed a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour by France

France has bestowed its highest honor upon former FARC captive Ingrid Betancourt, announcing the 46-year-old would be appointed a Chevalier of the Legion of Hounour.

Betancourt spent six-and-a-half years as a hostage of the Colombian militant rebel group FARC before being rescued earlier this month. She had been campaigning as a presidential candidate when she was captured in 2002.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy will formally present Betancourt with the honor on July 14, Bastille Day.
