Brazilian Oil Workers Beginning Five-Day Strike

Protesting offshore working conditions Brazilian oil workers at the state-run Petrobras are set to begin a five-day strike that many fear could drive the price of oil even higher.

Union-backed workers have argued that the trip from oil platforms to the mainland should be counted as work while the company has refused to recognize their demands.

Management at Petrobras has maintained they would do everything they could to keep their level of production up while workers have countered by saying they would attempt to disrupt production.

Workers at the 42 oilfields in the Campos basin are determined to have their demands met and with 80 percent of Petrobras daily production coming from the area the strike could have an impact on world oil prices.

While the strike is confined to the Campos basin there is talk that it could carry over to Petrobras refineries and terminals.
