Charred Remains of Missing Fort Bragg Soldier Holley Lynn Wimunc Discovered
Firefighters battling a brush fire near Camp Lejeune on Sunday uncovered the charred remains of missing Fort Bragg soldier 2nd Lt. Holley Lynn Wimunc.
Wimunc had been declared missing since last Thursday when firefighters were called to her Fayetteville apartment to put out a suspicious blaze. Investigators could not locate the 24-year-old army nurse and quickly declared her missing.
On Monday Wimunc’s father, Jesse James, issued a statement regarding the remains discovered on Sunday, “"It is with profound sadness that our family just received the news from authorities that our beloved daughter Holley is dead. Since last Thursday's shocking news about Holley's burned apartment and her missing person status, our family through the country has nonetheless been holding on to a thin thread of hope that she would be found alive. Today, that thread of hope broke as her body was discovered.”
Wimunc’s husband, Marine Cpl. John Patrick Wimunc, has been charged with arson and could be facing murder charges. The two were in the process of a divorce when she disappeared.
