Billy Packer, the famed CBS college basketball sportscaster, will not return to CBS after 28 years at the helm, according to reports on Monday.
Packer has covered the NCAA Final Four for 34 years. Packer, a color commentator, will be replaced in CBS' coverage by studio analyst Clark Kellogg. Jim Nantz will continue in his Final Four play-by-play role.
Packer, 68, will leave CBS to pursue "other projects in basketball," according to the Miami Herald.
Packer has made several controversial comments over the years. His most recent was made during the 2008 Final Four when Kansas played North Carolina. With the Jayhawks up 38-12, Packer declared, "The game is over." North Carolina cut the lead to 54-50 with 11 minutes left before Kansas stretched their lead, winning 84-66.
