Miss USA Crystle Stewart Falls During Miss Universe 2008 Pageant

Miss USA Crystle Stewart tripped on her evening gown and fell onstage during the Miss Universe 2008 Pageant on Sunday.

Stewart, the 2008 Miss USA from Texas, fell down during the evening gowns segment of the  Miss Universe 2008 beauty pageant in Nha Trang, Vietnam.

This is the second year in a row that Miss USA has fallen during the competition. Last year, Miss USA 2007 Rachel Smith also slipped and fell. Smith, the previous Miss Tennessee USA 2007, was the 4th runner-up in the Miss Universe 2007 pageant.

Stewart, who made it into the Top 10, was named Miss Texas USA 2008 in July 2007, her fifth attempt at winning the pageant. Stewart, a graduate of hometown University of Houston, became the ninth Miss Texas USA to win Miss USA.

Miss Venezuela Dayana Mendoza was crowned the winner of the Miss Universe 2008 pageant, beating out fellow contestants Miss Colombia Taliana Vargas, Miss Dominican Republic Marianne Cruz, Miss Russia Vera Krasova and Miss Mexico Elisa Najera.

Mendoza became the fifth Miss Venezuela to win the Miss Universe pageant, tying them with Puerto Rico for second-most for a nation. The U.S. leads with seven Miss Universe winners.

Vargas had the highest score on both the swimsuit and evening gown competition, followed by Mendoza, who was second in both.

Miss El Salvador Rebeca Moreno was named Miss Congeniality, while Miss Thailand Gavintra Photijak won Best National Costume and Mexico's Najera won Best Bikini - Queen of Vinpearl.

The 2008 Miss Universe Pageant is the first major USA-based television production to take place in Vietnam since the end of the Vietnam War.
