Drug Gangs Suspected in Murder of Guatemalan Prosecutor

Gunmen believed to be tied to Guatemalan drug gangs are suspected of carrying out the murder of a state prosecutor who had been investigating the deaths of three politicians.

Police reported Juan Carlos Martinez was shot and killed while driving through a suburb near his home in Guatemala City. Martinez had been investigating the murders of three Salvadorean politicians who were believed to be murdered by drug gangs as well.

Drug cartels have played a major role in the trafficking of cocaine from Colombia through Mexico and on to the United States.
