Suicide Bombers Target Army Recruits in Iraq, at least 28 Dead

Two suicide bombers detonated explosives near a crowd of army recruits in Baqouba, Iraq, killing at least 28 people and leaving more than 50 injured.

The attack occurred in the Diyala province, a highly volatile area located northeast of Baghdad. According to reports at least one of the two bombers had been disguised as a soldier when they neared the Saad military camp.

Baqouba is located about 35 miles north of Baghdad and its stability is seen as critical to the safety of the capital.

The majority of those killed in Tuesday’s blast were believed to be police recruits.
