Tropical Storm Bertha left much of Bermuda without electricity after the storm swarmed over the island on Monday.
The tropical storm left Hamilton, Bermuda's capital, with flooded roads and falled utility poles, leaving up to 4,000 without electricity. All ferries and flights were canceled.
Bermuda's weather center has canceled a hurricane watch as Bertha headed back over water, away from the island.
The storm caused dangerous currents that whipped up along the U.S.' East Coast, ranging from the Carolinas to southern New England, and is credited for the drowning death of one person in New Jersey.
On Tuesday, Bertha was centered about 190 miles north-northeast of Bermuda with sustained winds near 70 mph, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said. The storm was swirling north-northeast at 9 mph.
Bertha became the Atlantic Ocean's first hurricane on July 7, but has since been downgraded to a tropical storm. It is expected to strengthen back to a hurricane on Tuesday, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.
Also on Monday, Elida became the second hurricane of the Eastern Pacific region's season, scattering rains across Mexico's central coast. The storm, with winds of nearly 85 mph (140 kph), was headed away from land and was expected to gradually weaken during the next 48 hours.
Elida was centered about 480 miles south of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, and was moving west about 10 mph.
