Natalie Cole, the famed singer and daughter of the late great Nat King Cole, has been diagnosed with Hepatitis C, according to reports on Wednesday.
The disease was discovered during a routine examination, according to Cole's spokesman.
Cole, 58, is thought to have contracted the disease from past drug use. Cole was addicted to LSD, cocaine and heroin before going to rehab in 1984 and becoming clean.
According to her doctors, Cole is suffering from fatigue, muscle aches and dehydration, all of which are side effects from the treatment for Hepatitis C.
"I've been so fortunate to have learned so much from my past experiences," said Cole in a statement. "I am embraced by the love and support of my family and friends. I am committed to my belief in myself and in my abiding faith to meet this challenge with a heartfelt optimism and determination."
Hepatitis C can lead to chronic hepatitis if contracted with Hepatitis A or B. The disease can cause cirrhosis of the liver and can be present without symptoms for 10-20 years.
Cole's father, Nat King Cole, passed away in 1965 of lung cancer when Natalie was 15.
