COLORADO – Republican lawmakers from Colorado have traveled to Arizona for advice on structuring new illegal immigrant laws for the state.
The trip to Arizona was organized by the Republican Study Committee of Colorado, an organization that works to educate lawmakers on different issues.
Colorado is just one of the 20 plus states trying to follow in Arizona’s footsteps in regards to illegal alien laws. The state has already placed restrictions on state services making it easier for law enforcement officials to turn over illegal aliens to federal agencies.
Moving forward, state Sen. Kevin Lundberg has mentioned the possibility of enacting a law that will require businesses to verify the citizenship of their employees.
Although many of the provisions of the Arizona law were banned, they are still pressing forward with strict guidelines regarding employment visas.
The controversial regulation has sparked the interest of many and the anger of others. President Barack Obama, for one, is opposed to the legislature as well as other foreign dignitaries that have ties to the United States.
The Arizona measure is under appeal and under the international microscope as President Barack Obama speaks out against it, Mexican dignitaries express outrage and Republicans across the country try to implement it in their home states.
Lawmakers and politicians who are against the strict immigration regulations argue that many similar laws have already been stopped from passing and the state is wasting its time.
Senate Minority Leader Mike Kopp, argued that "Republicans in the House and Senate have pushed well over a dozen get-tough laws on immigration over the past four years. Nearly all have been killed."
Meanwhile, tensions continue to escalate and negativity toward immigrants – legal or illegal – has compounded over the past several months.
As long as a foreigner is living in the United States without an official permit, visa or green card, they are considered to be illegal. Those aliens should contact an immigration lawyer as soon as possible to file for legal status at the risk of being deported. An immigration lawyer will handle completing the necessary paperwork and speaking to various immigration agencies, doing all in their power to ensure that their clients are allowed to remain in the country.
