The new Florida health insurance reform that is taking place via the Federal Government has many residents uneasy. Individuals in the state with pre-existing conditions were told “Obama Care” would have a plan available for them. While that is technically true, there are requirements to meet before you can get into this new health insurance program. To qualify for this new Federal high risk pool an individual need to:
1. Needs to be a citizen or national of the U.S. or lawfully present in the United States
2. Needs to be uninsured for at least the last six months
3. Has have had problems getting insurance due to a pre-existing condition

Many Floridians are outraged that they have to wait 6 months before they can get into the new health plan. They think that this is a typical piece of legislation that was pushed through without thinking from all angles. This past week the Florida Supreme Court has been going over whether to put back into place (Proposition C). This proposition is a simple ballot that would rule out the ability for the Federal Government to mandate the requirement for Florida residents to buy a health insurance policy.
At the minimum, this new ruling would tell the Feds that they wouldn’t be able to fine you for not having a health plan. One of the large provisions under the new Obama health insurance plan is that everyone has to buy insurance so the risk pool becomes bigger. They believe that we need all of the younger individuals to pay into the pool so we can afford to pay claims for the aging populations. The larger pool of health consumers along with an increase in quality wellness programs is the Governments solution to fix our huge health care system mess.
The Florida state court system started going over various opinions on the subject matter today. The state body approved the referendum a few months ago and followed a similar situation that followed a similar ruling in the state of Missouri. Residents of Missouri overpoweringly approved there version of the bill the first week of August. Those voters didn’t end up getting the luxury of voting for something they truly believed in. A much lower court system in the end removed the proposition from the ballot with reasoning that they didn’t want to confuse voters.
The consensus for groups that do not want to change the current Florida health insurance system through Obama’s health care reform needs seventy percent of Floridian voters to approve the proposition to make sure that the insurance mandate through the Federal Government would not come to pass. Many other state legislatures throughout the United States are against Obama’s health insurance reform package. Most Floridians really believe that the Democratic Party slammed this bill through the system because they had the majority. Not necessarily because they know it will be good for America and our economy. What do you think?
