Girls Poisoned at School in Afghanistan

Authorities in Afghanistan say dozens of girls and teachers at a high school in Kabul were poisoned Wednesday. Fifty-nine students and fourteen teachers were sickened by poison gas and taken to a nearby hospital.  

A local doctor said blood samples from the victims were sent to Turkmenistan to determine what type of gas was used. A spokesman for Afghanistan’s education ministry said Wednesday’s incident is the ninth such attack on school girls.

The Taliban is believed to be responsible for the attacks because they oppose female education.
