Mexican Navy Discovers 72 Bodies on Ranch

A man suffering from a gunshot wound led authorities in Mexico to 72 bodies at a ranch in the state of Tamaulipas. The Mexican Navy says the bodies of 58 men and 14 women were found above ground inside a structure on the ranch, which is located about 14 miles from the town of San Fernando.

The agency says they exchanged gunfire with suspects at the ranch. One naval officer and three suspects were killed in the exchange.

The Navy also discovered a stash of weapons, bullet proof vests and four trucks made to look like vehicles from the Ministry of National Defense on the ranch. It is unclear if any arrests were made. The man who tipped authorities off said he had been shot by a criminal gang.

"The federal government strongly condemns the barbaric acts committed by criminal organizations and reaffirms its commitment to the rule of law. The whole society must condemn such acts which illustrate the absolute need to continue fighting crime in the strongest terms by the Mexican State to achieve the peace we demand the Mexicans," the Navy said in a statement.
