Montana, Gretzky, Smith Star on Oaks Christian HS Football Team

Oaks Christian High School in California is receiving less attention for its football team and more attention for the players' fathers.

Nick Montana, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Joe Montana, has transferred from national power Concord De La Salle to Oaks Christian of Westlake Village.

Nick Montana, who is a rising junior, was a starting quarterback for De La Salle's JV team last season, while his older brother, Nate, was a varsity backup quarterback at De La Salle and is now at Notre Dame.

The younger Montana has been tutored privately by Steve Clarkson, who has mentored everyone from Matt Leinart to Jimmy Clausen, the Oaks Christian alum who is now the Notre Dame starting QB.

On the JV team, the starting quarterback this upcoming season will be Trevor Gretzky, the son of NHL Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky. Gretzky, a sophomore, will have a talented wide receiver in classmate Trey Smith, the son of superstar actor Will Smith.

According to Oaks Christian coach Bill Redell, Smith is athletic enough to play varsity, but wants to play on the frosh/sophomore team. Trey is Will Smith's oldest child with whom he had with ex-wife Sheree Zampino.

In 2006, Oaks Christian received a lot of attention with football family ties. Clausen, the younger brother of former Tennessee QB Casey Clausen, was considered one of the best prep quarterbacks in high school football history. His brothers Casey and Rick were both D-1 quarterbacks. Clausen was ranked the No. 1 player in the class of 2006.

Running back Marc Tyler, the son of former NFL NFL standout Wendell Tyler, was ranked the best running back in the nation before signing with USC. Nine other players signed to D-1 schools.

However, in 2006, entertainment outlets were not covering the school, something that the school has feared since the arrival of all three players. According to the Los Angeles Times, the school is worried about a possible media frenzy.

Based on the early reports of the players, college scouts will be frequent visitors as all three players have true potential.

Montana, who stands 6-foot-2, is already taller than his father and has a great arm. He will battle Tony Macarena, a transfer from from St. Bonaventure of Ventura, as the starting quarterback. Unlike Montana, Macarena's father Sergio is not nearly as famous, as Fox News reported that Sergio "lifts furnitute for a living".
