Starbucks Releases Closing List of 600 U.S. Stores on Friday

Starbucks released their closing list on Friday, which details the 600 store closures it will embark on in the U.S. by the end of March.

California takes the biggest hit with 88 stores, which is five percent of the amount of stores in the state. With the closings, California will remain the state with the most Starbucks locations.

Texas (509 stores) and Florida (437), the next two largest states for Starbucks locations, will see store cuts of 11 percent and 14 percent, respectively.

Some states will have large majority of their Starbucks locations closing, such as Mississippi, which will have seven locations closing out of its 17 stores statewide. Four of North Dakota's 12 Starbucks stores are closing.

A small amount of states, like Alaska and Vermont, will have no closings due to the low amount of stores in their states. Alaska has just five Starbucks stores, while Vermont has four.

The closures affect about 12,000 Starbucks store employees nationwide.

As of 12 p.m. on Friday, Starbucks (NYSE: SBUX) stock price is up to $14.43, $0.05 (0.33%), showing no real difference from Thursday's close. Thus far, Starbucks' Friday low was $14.15.

Starbucks, which is based in Seattle, is the largest coffee house company in the world, with 15,012 stores in 44 countries.
