Austrian Incest Dad Murdered Baby, Says Daughter Imprisoned for 24 Years

Austrian “horror dad” Josef Fritzl may face murder charges after the daughter he imprisoned for 24 years testified he was responsible for the death of her three-day-old son Michael, whom Fritzl fathered.

42-year-old Elisabeth Fritzl told prosecutors that Michael, one of twins born in 1997, died and that her father tossed the body in a furnace. Charges could be filed against the elder Fritzl if it is determined the child could have been saved if taken to a hospital.

Elisabeth’s six other children, fathered by the 74-year-old Fritzl, will not have to testify in the proceedings. Prosecutors have determined Elisabeth’s testimony, along with evidence collected from the dungeon at the family home where she was held captive, will be sufficient to charge her father with rape, child cruelty and false imprisonment.

According to Austrian police chief Franz Polzer, “There is a mountain of evidence against him. There will be no need to make the children, who are already scarred, talk about what happened.”

When Fritzl stands trial in the fall, he may also face charges of manslaughter or murder in the death of baby Michael.
