Rev Sun Myung Moon, Founder of “Moonies,” Hurt in Helicopter Crash

Rev Sun Myung Moon, founder of the Unification Church, was among several hurt in a helicopter crash in South Korea.

The 88-year-old was accompanied by his wife and nearly a dozen relatives when the helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing while flying through heavy rain. While trying to make the landing the chopper hit a hillside just east of Seoul, and burst into flames.

Moon, whose church and its members are better known as Moonies, was taken to the church-affiliated Cheongshim Hospital was examined for back injuries but said to be recovering.

Known officially as the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, the Moonies are widely recognized for their mass weddings.
