Stereohype of Bay St Louis Mississippi Fun, Energetic and Entertaining All Around

Punk rock meets trumpet and trombone at the first annual Mass Ska Raid July 18

Stereohype, a ska/punk/rock band based in Bay St. Louis Mississippi, played at Atlanta’s Masquerade’s Mass Ska Raid on Friday, July, 18.  The band joined 17 other local and regional bands in an effort to revive the ska music scene.

Taking control of the stage, Stereotype’s explosive sound quickly drew in a large crowd.  The crowd, made up mostly of spiked Mohawks, brightly colored hair, tapered bondage pants and lots of chains quickly took the floor in front of the stage.  With arms pumping and legs kicking, frenzy breaks out within the group.  Bodies jump to the beat of the music and as the songs play on, the dancers transition from chaotic body thumping to a circled rush of movement, resembling the caucus race in Alice in Wonderland.

Each band member has his own personality, his own style and his own set of expressions yet Talmadge Allen (trumpet/vocals) and Mondo Belmonte (trombone/vocals) prove to be the most entertaining.  Together they bopped around the stage, acting out the lyrics to their songs like a game of ultimate charade, the group connects well with the crowd.  At one point Talmadge jumped into the audience, joining the circle of punk dancers.  The crowd cheered and the band played on with their own brand of humorous side notes and great music.

The Mass Ska Raid, organized by 50:50 Shot bassist Austin Benedict, was held for the first time at the Masquerade in Atlanta, Georgia.  The event was scheduled to revive the ska music scene and featured eighteen local and regional bands and over seven hours of music.

Stereohype also played at the Ska Weekend in Knoxville, Tennessee.  50:50 Shot, the Taj Motel Trio, the Disregardables and Stuck Lucky, all who played at the Mass Ska Raid, also participated in the event.
