Madeleine McCann Investigation Shelved by Portuguese Officials

The investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann has been shelved by Portuguese officials, more than one year after the young girl vanished from her parent’s holiday apartment in the resort town of Praia da Luz, in the Algarve region of Portugal.

McCann disappeared on May 3, 2007; just days shy of her fourth birthday. After her disappearance Portuguese authorities began focusing their attention on the parents of Madeleine McCann, Gerry and Kate.

The parents were eventually named as official suspects, as was a third British man, Robert Murat, but that status has since been lifted due to a lack of evidence.

Now, after 14 months of investigating the case, Portuguese officials have declared the case cold and will no longer commit police to the case. If new evidence s discovered in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann officials will reopen the case.
