When an addict only has one thing on his mind, the only thing he will focus on is when and how to get more of the alcohol or drug. Even if an addict is at the top of his high, he is still going to be trying to figure out ways to come up with his next possible fix. There is nothing that the addict does that will be able to capture his full attention because he will always be focused on that next high.
Going without Alcohol and Drug Treatment
Many people who are battling addiction fail to take even the basic steps of hygiene and grooming seriously; they will not bathe or even change their clothes and that seems incredible to people who have never been through the struggle themselves. Eating, bathing, and even sleeping becomes an unnecessary task when all they can think of is how they will get their next fix.
An addict knows that without the next fix, he will possibly face serious withdrawal symptoms that will leave him unable to function normally. The physical issues will begin to show in his body. He will progress into anxious depression when he is trying to get another fix. An addict will no longer be able to take on any form of responsibility and he will feel even worse about himself and this is a key to knowing he need alcohol and drug treatment.
The only way for an addict to kick his habit is to find some sort of alcohol and drug treatment. Many addicts will not even try to find treatment without hitting rock bottom first. An addict must be 100% dedicated to breaking free of the addiction for it to work for in the long run. If an addict does not face alcohol and drug treatment with the strength that it takes, regression will be in his future.
An addict can only succeed in alcohol and drug treatment if he has decided in his own mind that he is worth the struggle. The doubts will soon turn to fear, then he will turn to coping, and eventually he will be strong enough to stay sober for the rest of his life. When that happens, he will know full well that his own strength pulled him through, that he was really stronger than he ever thought he could be. Family regains trust, friends return, and life goes in a whole new direction after an alcohol and drug treatment.
